Changed out clutch cables, etc. on my '97 Sporty. I changed the trans/oil fluid. The seal/gasket did not want to stay on. Finally I got it working. When I took it for the first ride, it leaked maybe 3-6 drops, sicne then and a few hundred miles it hasn't leaked any. I did get a new seal, but have not isntalled it. My problem is, now it is way hard getting the dang thing to shift into neutral, as it was fien before the change. Ideas? I do plan on putting in the new seal when I chnage the oil in a week or so.

Try adjusting the clutch cable just a hair. It sounds like the cable is not fully engaging the clutch, thus the hard shifting. Should be an adjusting screw somewhere toward the middle of the cable. I will qualify all of this by saying that I'm not a motorhead, I mostly just tinker. Good luck.
Next time you pull the derby cover, put a little grease in the gasket slot and the gasket will stay put. Make sure you tighten the bolts on the cover a little at a time using a crossing pattern.
If you don't have one, get a service manual for your bike at the HD shop. They cost about $50 but well worth the investment.
Hopefully, if I'm all wet on the cable adjustment, someone will chime in.
If you over fill the primary, it will give you a hard time finding neutral, also a bit of a tweek on the adjustment can't hurt, go according to the manual.
Thanks everyone, I am going to drain a little fluid tonight along with my normal oil change. I believe it is a little too full (the cable should have been adjusted properly) as when I drained the old, I dodn't drain it warm, so I imagine a wee bit too much primary fluid. I have the manual, but it says "fill to this line/spring", problem is that line could vary depending how each person sights it up, sure you all know what I mean. Next time I will know my sights :>
Thanks guys.
