Default Harley being fast?

I am a new member here, and I would like to know how many of you people actually think a harley is fast?
Also, I would like to compare harleys with import cruisers.
Do the import cruisers go as fast as harleys?
Next question is, why do most harley riders make the bikes loud?
Final question, why don't harley riders want to wear helmets?
I am considering a cruiser bike and am not sure which one to buy yet. I want the most power for the money I can get! Thank you for your input!

First, buy what you want. Those that buy a Harley for any reason other than that are only wanted a lift to bike night to show the chrome or to impress others.

A Harley is not the fastest bike........................for me it is fast enough.

Not wearing a helmet is a regional thing for cruisers and sport bikes alike. I wear a helmet and it appears a whole lot of people on here do to.

A large group of Harley owners want to be individuals (I know that by joining the Harley group that statement seems strange, but with all the customizing options available for Harleys it seems that no two are the same.)

As for the most bang for your buck, there is not another bike that historically has held its value like a Harley.

.................................Some will agree with what I have said and others will not understand it............................

It sounds like to me you want HD riders to justify what they ride and how they ride. . . sorry if this doesn't come across correct, but I would buy a metric cruiser if you have this many questions.

In order:

Welcome to the forum from London, Ontario. You seem sincere so here goes. These are one man's opinion.

You can compare if you like but there really is no comparison.
Its not about fast. If you want to go fast get a Hayabusa. We will read about you in the paper.
Loud pipes save lives, some say. I guess I agree with that, but obnoxious is another thing.
Helmets are a personal choice. Most of us here wear them, I think.
Power and fast don't equate. My bike is powerful, but its at the low end where it counts for me.
Have you ridden any bikes yet? Maybe that will answer your questions.

Welcome to the forum!!!
First, honestly you will know from the moment to decide to ride whether or not you WANT a Harley....it's not something one has to think about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Second, no it's not the fastest bike....want a fast cruiser~~>try the Vulcan 2000...and maybe the Roadliner...but I will tell ya this...we'll see u back here in a year!!!!
Third, Many of us wear helmets...I wear a 1/2 helmet and a full face.... There are just as many metric riders not wearing them either....
Fourth, when it comes to *the sound* of a Harley~~~>no other bike can compare...and we add exhaust to let out that one sound that NO other metric bike can sound like.
I had my metric bikes, and I've dropped lots of $$ into them to get THAT sound and THAT look, but it you know what, "it ain't gonna happen!"
AS for the Harley Davidson.....it's either in your blood or not!!!!

Depending on what you do (and how you ride) a Harley can be straight-line fast. Drop a blower on it (and nitrous) and you have stupid-fast. But HDs are not motoGP-bikes so they are not meant for high velocity cornering (get a Buell).

Do the import copies go faster? Maybe some stock, but few modified.
Some make their bikes loud to annoy people. Some for a minute addition of safety (hard to take my lane w/o 'seeing' me thru my exhaust noise), and some just for the 'coolness' of the noise.

Helmets are a choice thing. Some do not want to wear them b/c someone else is attempting to force a usage law on them. Some again for the 'cool' factor.

No cruiser bike will outperform the crotch rockets stock, and not off-the-line against the high-$$$ customs.

I can almost guarantee that the simple SE Stage2 upgrade would be 'fast' enough for you. There are few places you can (safely) get away w/maxing out the top speed, and you have plenty of torque to scare you off the line.

My bike is faster then my old bike but not a screamer and it fast enough for me.
My hubby rides a Honda VTX 1800 Retro...Huge bike loads of power and can blow me away on speed....He loves it.

Not all Harley riders make thier bike loud...and not all metric owners leave thier bike stock...Hubby's bike has pipes that are very load (bought the bike that way)...Why do metrics want to sound like Harleys?

I wear a helmet...but then I live in CA and it's a law....Not sure if I would wear one or not if it wasn't. Have ridden with and without though. When I bought my yamaha 650 I got a brain bucket is so thin it's like having nothing....The guy hated helmets and was riding a metric???

Anyway buy what you want and what fits your style of riding. Want more power? Upgrade a Harley, check out Victory if you want american, or by metric..

I guess I would need a definition of 'fast'. Mine is fast enough for me...if I wanted a faster Harley I would get a V-Rod, if I needed something even faster I would get a sportbike.

Harley's are definitely not fast. I use to have a 450 cc honda cruiser that is faster than my Harley Deluxe. I wonder if the v-twin design is just a bad design for quick acceleration. I reading a magazine and it listed a Kawasaki 900 cc cruisers 1/4 mile time and it was painfully slow and it had 4 valves per cylinder. Now I know Kawasaki can make some fast motorcycles so it kind of strange.
