First off let me say hello to everyone here. I just joined AVTT.com. I just purchased a 1997 Dyna Wide Glide. The previous owner had installed Kuryakin forward controls and the knurling on the shifter shaft has stripped. Does anyone know if Kuryakin sells parts for their controls? Is there anything I can do to make the knurling hold? Maybe thread-lock, etc? I have tried using a fine sharp file to accent the splines but that didn't work. I was thinking I may have to spot weld it but that would mess up the chrome finish. Any help would be appreciated!
Don't spot weld it and mess up the chrome. If you are going to make it as permanent as a weld, just use JB Weld, or some Epoxy. That will hold, and later you will be able to get it off with a gear puller if need be.
Thanks Bill and Phil. I will take some pics of it and email Kuryakyn to see if they carry the parts I need at a reasonable price. If not I will use Bill's epoxy idea. I just joined the AVTT website this morning and the info I have received has already made it well worth while!
I 2nd JB Weld, the stuff is awsome, but I had a simular issue with a tail light mount once, all I did was drill up thru the mount and into the light shaft then tapped a roll pin in. Worked like a champ.

1. Drill Thru both clamp and shaft
2. Insert either:
A. Roll Pin
B. 10-32 machine screw and nut on the other side.
Just wanted to bring everyone up to speed on what has transpired with the stripped shifter shaft. I clean both parts and applied JB Weld, tightened everything up and left it sit for 24 hours. I made two shifts and the JB Weld failed. Back to the garage. I drilled through the shifter yoke, on the shift lever, and the shaft and installed a steel rolled pin. Everything is working fine now. I also contacted Kuryakyn and they are sending me a new shifter shaft FREE. I am really impressed. They didn't have to do that but I'm glad they did.
I thank all of you for your suggestions. They really helped!
