Default SG Squeal

Many SG and RG owners are having issues with terrible front brake squeal. My dealer wants to try the foam injection into the cast wheel. Others have posted floating rotor will eliminate this issue. Is there a real solution to this? Ay ideas?

Cruiser, bought my SuperGlide in nov 05.

Noticed front brake noise for a couple thousand miles, but not "terrible front brake squeal' .

Went away a while back. 4600 miles now.

Foam injection? Never heard of that.

Disc brake squeal is generally caused by the pad vibrating in the caliper. It's usually the the pad opposite the piston side. You cleaned it up and "glued" it in place. But since the H-D calipers have pistons on both sides, I don't think that will work (My brakes are quiet, so I havn't tried it).

If the pads glaze, they will vibrate pretty bad. Remove the pads, lightly sand them with 120 grit sand paper, and chamfer the leading edge. Also, resurface the rotors with the same paper. I used a sanding pad in a drill motor. Clean it all up really good and re-assemble. Then very carefully bed in the brakes like you would for new pads. That should eliminate most (if not all) of the squealing.

Most cars and trucks now have ceramic pads. They don't work any better, and actually worse than a lot of non-ceramic pads. But they vibrate and squeal at such a high frequency that we can't hear it. I've not seen any ceramic pads for bikes. But then, I havn't really looked for them.

Great looking bike, I just bought a Black Cherry SG and like the work on yours. Are those decals or paint?

Thanks Nukeguy

From what I am told Nukeguy, the issue isn't the pads etc. but the harmonics the cast wheel is putting off when the front brake is applied. Thus, a transfer of noise. It is actually pretty bad on my bike. The pads have been ground twice.

Had the identical problem for nearly 3000 miles, finally I put on a set of Lyndall Z-pads and that solved the problem. Less than $100 delivered.
