I want to remove the OEM "hatchet" decal from the tank on my Heritage Softail. I want to keep the bike black & chrome, so this colored thing offends me. I want to put a chrome tank badge like the '61-62 FL in it's place. The "hatchet" looks to be applied over the clear coat. Do I just use a hair dryer, heat up the decal and slowly peel it off? Do I use some type of sticker/decal remover from an auto store? I am hoping this will be a straight forward project and WD40 will clean up any residue. Any thoughts, all help appreciated.

I believe that HD clear coats over top of the tank decals...keeps them on the bike when you...omg...overfill the fuel tank. I think you're gonna have to strip the tank and get it painted again without the decal.

peel off what you can then use brake cleaner! (worked for me!)
