I have a 1998 fuel injected Road King... I'd like to install a set of 2002 fender & tank set. Is it possible? Can it be done with basic modifications? I'm just looking to customize my ride. Any input would be appreciated!
I believe you can, the older HD EFI marelli systems used a dual runner throttle body (independent venturi each cylinder), the newer 2002 and up with Dephi, run with a single runner throttle body. You should have two fuel lines on your fuel tank to the dual runner throttle bodies, whereas the 02 and later have only one, but on my tank (02 model) there is a plug where the second line would have been, you should be able to use that for the second fuel delivery line. What I don't know is if fuel pumps and pressure regulators are the same, but if not, you could use your old pump and regulators I would think.
As far as fenders I believe they will work, Harley does'nt make a lot of changes year to year, your local HD parts man should be able to tell you about both the tank and fenders if they are interchangeable. I don't have a service manual under 02, if anyone else out there knows more on this please chime in.
One question, why are you going to an 02 set, when you could paint your old set? Just curious.
Thanks for the info... as for the switch, I can get a complete set relatively cheap for customizing. I really like my current set, so I want to hang on to them to switch back if desired. Also I won't have a lot of down time due to painting. I ride my RK on a daily commute between Fort Worth and Dallas about 90 miles a day.
