Tips on washing my Harley...

Hey guys !!

I finally received my Harley and I'm like a pig in **** man.
The bike is more than I anticipated and then some.
The reason I'm writing might sound simple but for a newbe
like me it's worth the embarassement. I washed my bike
today and when I took it for a ride she was spitting and a popping
for a good 10 to 20 Km. I was wondering if I should cover something
like for example the carburator or whatever to stop the humidity
from getting in the system??
Notice I said system, cause I don't if it's the electrical or the fuel
that took the humidity

Anyhow, any help will be greatly accepted.

I had a 91 Ultra once that did the same thing. There should not be anything to cover but obviously you are getting something wet that you shouldn't. Don't use a high pressure industrial car wash. Use low pressure wash and a soapy mit. You can blow water almost anyplace with high pressure. Like I said in one of my posts-I use the Mr. Clean Auto Dry Spot Free car wash. It works great and is low pressure. Check out my thread in the Product Reviews forum.

You know I heard about those high pressure washers as well
however, I was using my regular hose from the back yard.
The problem I believe was that I rinced it too much for too long.
I also have one of those Mr. Clean washers for my car and will
defenitly try it next time.

Washing a Harley has to be one of the easiest animals to clean. I use S100 on my stock Fatboy wheels, lightly wipe over the wheels with a soft sponge and rinse them off with low pressure from the hose end. No high pressure. I then use a small spray bottle with Zaino Z6 car wash very diluted. I spray it all over the engine and the rest of the bike. Get a sponge and lightly scrub the bike. Then, I rinse it off with low pressure straight from the hose.

I then use my electric $17 170mph Sears leaf blower to completely dry the bike. From there, I either use the Harley spritz stuff and wipe it off or, if I'm really ambitious, use Turtle Wax chrome polish.

I can have the whole thing done in less than an hour and looking as good as it gets. Once in a blue moon, when it's REALLY dirty, I use S100 instead of the diluted car wash. S100 is strong so I don't use it unless it's really dirty.

That's all there is to it.
