Default Windshield Awareness

OK I'm sort of between Vintage and New, I've got a 2005 Classic Springer that a guy named Opie at Davis HD in Burlington, NC turned into a retro "46". I walked into the dealership the day the owner (Randy Davis) put it on sale with a 126 miles on it. It's a little different but I dig it.

The reason I'm posting here is to make y'all aware of something regarding the Retro Windshield for that period that I had put on the bike. The lexan top portion is not the top end Lexan, it works fine as long as you do not clean it with anything but soap and water. I found this out right after I got the bike when I cleaned it with HD Window Cleaner. The cleaner has a mild solvent base which with the higher end HD Windshields that are molded probably is fine but these retro windshields are flat and bend around the frame which stresses the Lexan. The cleaner chemically reacts and Bingo stress cracks appear right away. The first time I did it; the second time my HD dealer did after the 5,000 mile check up when they were detailing the bike. It's not a problem buying another top Windshield but it just a hassle driving a cracked one until it gets to you. Now of course I will make sure to tell the dealer NOT to clean the bike once they finish.

Just thought I'd pass this on before I go back over to the Non-Vintage side of the forum. Maybe it'll help someone in the future with an early vintage windshield. BTW it's the 1937-1954 Springer version in JP Cycles catalog.
