Default Detachable Tour Pack ideas

I did not have the detachable tour pack done when I picked up my bike, I wanted to wait to spend the 400-600 dollars that was mentioned. Has anyone had one done lately??? I have been told about the wiring harness and hardware. I am not sure about when I will or if I will get it done. I seen some nice looking bikes with the Tour Pack removed on other posts.

I have one on mine. EZ to do...just a cable and a Y connector under the seat. Easy and worth it!

I've seen posted that you will lose your radio when you unplug the rear speakers on an Ultra. Not sure if there's a work around for this, but check it out before parting with your cash.

Mine 04 Ultra radio still works without the rear speakers plugged in. I just took mine off Sunday night to make it detachable.

I found this out on the web and went by it. Sorry I don't know who the author was:

I just converted my Ultra tour-pak to QD & while there are several wires & cables to consider, it's actually very do-able. I wasn't able to find any instructions etc on any of the forums, so here's what I came up with:

First I disconnected the intercom & CB antenna cables, & wrapped em up & zip tied em under the seat. Then I snipped the radio antenna & replaced it w/one I hid inside the fairing. That left me w/a 6 wire bundle on each side of the tour-pak, plus an extra bundle of 3 wires on the left side. Next I pulled the hot lead off the battery, picked the best place for my connectors, & snipped the 3 wire bundles in the spots I had chosen. After that, all that was left to do was to hook all the (color coded) wires back up using QD connectors.

I had very good results w/these connectors: http://www.deutschconnector.com/

After all the connections were finished I carefully wound black electrical tape around each bundle. It looks very clean, works great, & it really wasn't too tuff at all to do. On a scale of 1 - 10, I'd say it was about a 3 beer job. Hope this helps.

I put a detachable on my 05 Classic last year and am happy with it, although the plastic (nylon) at the quick connect points is beginning to wear, and the tour pack is starting to move around a bit. One question I have is about the grounding of the antennae. The original installation is grounded by the steel on steel connection of the pack to the bike. Not so on the detachable unit, which is isolated from the bike by those same troublesome plastic parts.
I have run a separate ground wire to be safe. But I don't know if it is really necessary.

If there was one I guess I would have. I don't think there was but I have been wrong before.

I installed the quick detach a couple weeks ago. I was about to pay $500 for the dealership to do it. I bought the parts from Chicago Harley with the discount. The job took two or three hours, very simple. Do a search, lots of good stuff on this topic.

One more thing, you're bike could look this cool with a detach set up!
