I decided to take a break from the knucklehead/flatheads for a while and do some work on an attainable goal: a 1972 super glide. It's pretty hammered from years of being unkept, grease, dirt, and rust are built up all over this bad boy. But....I can see a nice future. I've been shopping all day for chrome parts to put on her. The only things that are chrome right now are the pushrod covers and the rear wheel. I found a primary chrome cover on ebay along with a coil cover and a few other odds. We'll see how it turns out....when I'm not at work I'll take some pics so you guys can see what I'm workin on.
Last night I got a bunch of the motor primed for a new coat of paint.....it's a huge project, but I can see an end at least, those other ones I think I could work on forever.
I did a re-build on the motor and put in new electrical. It had this problem where it would overcharge the battery and kill the battery after a few hours of riding. The motor has been gone through, but the real project is to clean the thing up. There's so much dirt and dents all over the place it's tough to find a place to start. It used to be my grandpa's old bike, but he gave it up to me.
It's so nice to jump on night train when I get frustrated with the old one.
It also had this problem of being hard to kick over to start, but I've been putin super unleaded in it and now I can get it goin anywhere from 3 to 10 kicks. Used to take around 20 or so.
heh, lol. my wife says red, but I'll proly just go with black on the tin. I like my night train so much I just can't go wrong with black. I've got a buddy that does airbrush work, so I thought I'd see if he could put the harley logo with some flames on the tank....we'll see though. Tonight I just finished painting the engine & cylinders black, so now I've gotta do the frame. Then I'll be brave enough to give the tanks & fenders a shot.
