Default LCD Oil Temp Dipsticks

677 10/19/2000
IMPORTANT FITMENT AND AVAILABILITY INFORMATION
OIL TEMPERATURE DIPSTICKS WITH LCD READOUT
Purpose
This Bulletin will address the following issues surrounding the Oil Temperature
Dipsticks with Lighted LCD Readout that were introduced at the Denver Dealer
Show:
• The nature of the Liquid Crystal Displays when exposed to extreme ambient heat
• Important fitment information for 2001 Touring Models (P/N 62937-00)
• The availability status of the dipsticks
• Updated Instruction Sheet detailing the retaining clip installation on all ’99 and ’00
Twin Cam Touring Models.
The Nature of the Liquid Crystal Display
Due to the nature of Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD’s), the readout on these
dipsticks will not display the oil temperature properly when the body (where the
PC Board and LCD reside) is exposed to extreme ambient temperatures due to
heat transfer from the transmission case / oil tank. Extreme temperatures can
exist in stop and go traffic or parade duty combined with high ambient
temperatures. If this situation occurs, do not be alarmed as the LCD unit will not
be damaged and will function properly when the LCD has the opportunity to
return to its normal operating temperature (bike is operating in a normal fashion).
This is not to be considered a warrantable issue. This condition primarily exists
on TC88 touring powertrain applications (P/N 62937-00).
Note also that the LCD may appear not to be operating properly in direct bright
sunlight. This situation can cause the LCD to appear to have a readout of “888.”
This can be overcome by shading the readout (blocking out the direct sunlight) to
achieve a proper reading.
Fitment Issues with 2001 Touring Models & with Chrome Oil Filler Spout
Part number 62937-00, for Twin Cam 88 Touring Models, will not fit 2001 models
or models equipped with accessory Chrome Oil Filler Spout part number 62410-
00. Because of a running change made to the Original Equipment Oil Filler
Spout for the 2001 model year on Touring Models, the dipstick will not fit and
should not be used for this application. This change also impacts the accessory
Chrome Oil Filler Spout. We are redesigning the part for TC88 Touring Models
to address this situation.

P&A Bulletin # 685
TC88 Touring Model Availability Status
We are redesigning the TC88 Touring Model LCD Dipstick so it will fit ‘99-’01
models and anticipate the new design will start shipping in March. There will be
no more shipments of the existing design for TC88 Touring Models (P/N 62937-
00).
TC88 Dyna and Evolution Model Availability Status
We plan to start shipping product for the TC88 Dyna models (P/N 62938-00) and
Evolution models (P/N 62936-00 & 62939-00) beginning in December and
anticipate backorders will clear for these two applications by February.
I-Sheet Revised
The attached I-sheet has been revised to improve clarity surrounding the
installation of the retaining clip required for ‘99 –‘00 TC88 Touring Models. The Isheet
includes improved photos showing cut-away views of the oil filler spout and
the insertion/location of the clip itself.
