Default Removing Rocker Box

This 72' super glide I keep talkin about, well I'd like to take off the rocker boxes and get them cleaned up too.

I'm curious....since I don't know anything about motors (kinda) is it safe to take these off? I mean other than removing the obvious nuts/bolts, will I mess anything up?

I just need to get them off to give them a good scrub and polish.

thanks-

pat

If this is a stock frame you're gonna have to pull the heads or pull the engine as there isn't enough room to lift the rocker boxes over the valve springs and studs

damn, I didn't even consider that. I just went out and looked at the nuts and bolts portion. yeah it's a stock frame. wow, more to this than I thought. not so sure it's worth it now, I might just put my time into the small cracks with steel wool and polish.

I was gonna pull my rocker boxes until I heard that I'd have to pull the heads! My chrome RBs are flaking so I just wire brushed them and polished the exposed aluminum with a dremel. I'll wait for the overhaul time and do everthing then.
