I am looking at tour seats for my wideglide. Usual stuff; HD pillow tour , sundowner deep seat, mustang vintage , corbin gunfighter and lady.
Never gave the width much thought except I am looking to make my lady as comfortable as possable so thought wider rear is better. Now , as an afterthought , I got out the measure tape and did some checking . My rear pillion part is 8 1/2 inches (stock seat). all these seats are around 12 so I tried to visualize what that extra 3 1/2 inches in width would look like and to be honest , I can't see how it could look right. The passenger part of the seat would actually be over my saddlebags a bit . Does anyone here run a wide tour type seat on their dyna ?? What are your thoughts ??
One thing I did fix is that crazy angle the backrest is on . I have a tall sissybar that was almost useless unless you wanted to lay down LOL
Iinstalled a Sundowner for the same reason. The stock passenger pillon on the Dyna is only 8" wide. The Sundowner is 12". I was worried that it would be too wide for the modern look I want to maintain on my Wide Glide. It's actually quite nice and after a 1000-miler, it proved soft and comfortable for both of us. Can't send comparison pics as I'm on the road but if you want, I will when I return Wednesday
Not exactly what you need but here is my Super Glide with a Sundowner seat part number 51540-06. It has a 12" pillon width. Reports from the back are "it's great!". I know the rider seat is so much better than stock, it's not funny! I spent several hours in the seat, last Friday, and when I got off, it was like I'd never been sitting more than five minutes.
Zu, I also have a Sundowner for my Lowrider. It is awesome for long trips and the wife agrees with that too. I don't leave mine on, always have the stock seat on, unless she is going for a ride with me, I do not like the looks of it. It sits me up a good 2"-3" and back at least 2". Good luck. Tim
04 Lowrider with mustang vintage tour and wide pad for the wife. I also have a wide back pad. I have saddlemen bags with easy brackets, and the seat does not cover the bags. I also have the tall sissy bar.
Ok you sundowner guys , It looks like you are all running the tour model and not the deep bucket model right ?? what are the reasons ??
ameristo, did you try any other seats before the mustang vintage ?? Does you wife like it ??
I notice no one is using the harley pillow look tour seat , I think that is telling me something ...........
I have the Sundowner on my 06 WG, it's not the best look but the ride makes up for it. My wife tells me it looks good to her, but that maybe because the stock seat was not as comfortable. Also I hear people say the Sundowner sits them up and back, but I feel like it sits me forward and down. I have the quick detach sissybar and the seat hits the brackets at back but not that bad.
