Default How do I get oven cleaner off? It's like paint!

A buddy stopped by with the idea of spraying oven cleaner on my hot pipes to remove boot marks...worked great..EXCEPT he also sprayed it on my tranny and lower block. This stuff is on like paint! Tried paint thinner, gas, carb cleaner, gunk remover. Nothing touches it! Any ideas?
Thanks,
zen

I don't think it's on like paint. It usually damages whatever surface it touches. It'll sorta "frost" aluminum if it's a mild attack, and pit it badly if it's a worse attack.

Zenwarrior--you know what time it is?

It's time to find a new buddy! Who would do that to a friend's bike? If he had done it before he should know that it splatters everywhere if the pipes are hot. If he hadn't done it before, you should have been the one to spray it on your bike, not him.

Oven cleaner is acid, and what you're trying to clean off is remnants of the metal it has eaten away.

Yeah, too many idiots out there, including me for letting him do it! Fortunately, it just lightly frosted thre parts, comming off with a lot of rubbing and Mothers Incredible Billet Polish. It just slightly dulled the finish, on parts that are not really out front anyway.
Thanks.

That's nasty stuff to be putting on or anywhere near your bike. Even afterspray or overspray can cause damage. It's acidic (I think), and will wreak havoc with your paint or aluminum shiny parts. Definately not a chemical to use on your bike.

Actually it IS great for getting melty crap off the pipes as long as they're cool and you're very careful...But like you said, you have to cover everything to keep the overspray off.

Wow, eat up with the dumb.

You spray stuff like that on a rag and then drape it over the pipe or part.
