Default Good Bye Arnie

Is Arnold Palmer one class act or what? If you don't know already he retired yesterday. After the fourth hole of his round he stopped keeping score because his back was so sore he could hardly walk. He continued playing and finished the round just for the fans.

You're right......Arnold Palmer is nothing but a class act. Nothing against Tiger, he's a very good golfer, but I don't care how many tournaments and majors he wins, he'll still not compare to Jack and Arnold.

From the news Arnie was a powerhouse in his day. Like a lite version of Byron Nelson (always in TX news).

Cannot get into golf tho. Waaaaaaay too boring.

Arnie is a class act. Jack is a class act. Tiger is a class act too - he just isn't as old. Don't hate on Tiger because he has more to deal with than Arnold and Jack. It is a different era. When Tiger is finished playing he will be revered the same as all the greats.

I'm not hatin' on Tiger at all. I agree, he's a class act, also. But, I don't think he has anymore to deal with than Jack and Arnie did. I remember watching Jack play back in the 70's and early 80's, and as good as Tiger is, I think Jack was better. That's not a slam on Tiger because he is a very talented golfer. Tiger just doesn't have anyone to challenge him like Jack did. The closest one to Tiger is Phil Michelson, and Phil just isn't mentally tough enough to challenge Tiger on a regular basis. Look at all the challengers Jack faced: Arnold, Lee Trevino, Ray Floyd, Tom Watson, Johnny Miller, Tom Weiskopf, Gary Player, Seve Ballesteros, Greg Norman, Tom Kite, etc...... Also, Tiger has the advantage of better technology when it comes to golf balls and clubs, and his driving distance is very equal to what Jack did with the old clubs and balls. I saw a interview with Lee Trevino a little while ago, and he said that if Jack had the same type of clubs and golf balls to use that Tiger does, on a lot of the par 4's that they use to play, Jack would be chipping back to the green on his second shot because he would be driving the balls over the green from the tee because of how far he used to hit the ball.

I am not totally convinced Jack had the same distractions as Tiger does now. I will say that the technology is only a slight advantage because the scoring averages have not really gone down. It would be interesting to see Jack and Tiger go head to head. My money would be on Tiger 6/10 times, but that is my preference. Wasn't trying to pick on you for hatin on Tiger, but alot of people do. You cannot fault Tiger for not having challengers. The man is daunting.

as far as technology goes you have to remember that todays golf courses are far more challenging than the courses were when the technology wasn't as it is today. All the old courses have been legnthened as well as tons of hazards. I think Jack in his prime and Tiger in his prime givin the same equipment would have been agreat battle but I too believe Tiger would come out on top more often. I would rather follow a group that had Arnie in it though. I believe he had more of a personality than Tiger and Jack.
