Default Do i need any warnings?

I just got my first HD, a 71 sportster 1000cc. The guy I got it from says it had a big bore kit put in it w/ a mild cam. Any heads up , or warnings of things to look for would be great! Thanks.

Unusual for a '71 to have a big bore kit. Usually they get stroked. In general - last year for the 900 cc motor, so no big issues with the motor. If kickstart, beware the "Sportster knee". Keep the points and timing set, and keep the valves (pushrods & solid lifters) adjusted. generators are less than reliable, especially if it still has the Bosch or Delco Remy regulator. Drum brakes front & rear are adequate, but just barely. Loctite is your friend.

In England they are regarded as similar to Triumph models of the same age,and req regular maintenance and upkeep, not like a start and go EVO model, now I've not owned one but by all accounts a sorted Ironhead motor will leave an EVO in the dust!
Enjoy
