Default Yet another PCIII question

I recently installed a PCIII UBS on my 07 Heritage Softail. The bike runs good but the problem is getting it started. Before I installed the PCIII, it would fire up instantly (cold or hot). Since I've installed the PCIII, it now takes about 3 or 4 seconds of cranking the engine before it fires if the engine is cold. If the engine is hot, it fires right up. This same problem was discussed in great detail in an earlier thread but it was never resolved. See http://www.hdforums.com/m_186898/tm.htm. Now, for the question. One of the solutions was to immediately start the engine without waiting for the engine light to go out. I tried this and it works. Will doing this cause any harm? A couple of posters said it would, but with no explanation. Can someone shed some light on this problem

Default RE: Yet another PCIII question

i was told that during the time the light is on that the sensors are continually reclibrating and that over time starting it with out letting it cycle will eventually cause damage to the sensors-just what I was told by a pertty reliable H.D. Tech

No solution to the start delay issue. Until Dynojet rewires these units to stay powered up after the engine light goes out the delay will exist.

Not sure of damage caused by starting it right away. I do know that starting it without waiting can cause the fuel system to not be completely pressurized nor will it allow for the bike to complete initial diagnostics.

Check out this link. http://www.powercommander.com/maps2/hdRev/pdf/harleyrev.pdf#search='power%20commander%20rev%20ex tend'

I have not tried this yet with my powercommander but may be worth taking a look at.

Start up fuel is for motors with lots of mods that need an extra shot of gas to get started.

the issue is that the system 'reboots' when the diags stop. It loses power until you hit the starter button.

Mine actualy takes about 1.5 seconds to start, hot or cold.

Tried it with the battery on, and it works right away. Not gonna leave the battery hanging under the seat though.

Is the start delay issue a univeral problem with the PCIII?

Seems to have started in '06. Not really a problem. It jus takes a hair longer to start. Like nyah nyah nyah vroom instead of nyah ny vroom.

I'm a little confused here. What system reboots, and what loses power? If I understand this correctly, when the ignition switch is turned on, power is going through ECM to the PCIII. Then when when you hit the run switch and after the diags stops. (the engine light goes out) the PCIII is no longer powered until you hit the start switch. The delay is waiting for the PCIII to reboot.

It may not be that big of a deal, but it's still not right. I think Dynojet need to do something to resolve this issue.

Thanks for all the replies.

The "system" is the PCIII so you are correct in your statement. I agree that Dynojet needs to find another way to power the PCIII up so it remains powered through the whole ignition process.

Personally I don't mind the delay because I know I am in for a good ride when I let the clutch out!
