Called Spectro, they referred me to Distributor in my "region" and he found me a Dealer about 100 miles away.

Trust me, it was worth the trip!  Later, a riding buddy and I went together and bought a case.  It's not cheap, but well worth the price considering how quiet this 6 speed is now.

Thanks!

Is the Mobil-1 transmission oil that you guys are using the same stuff for a car?
I can find the Mobil-1 V-twin crankcase oil at Auto Zone, but they do not have a gear lube specifically for motorcycles.
If it's not the same, where can I buy it?

You should add a "I dont know" option to your poll for people like me who had the stealer do it...  :)

I tried castrol syn 75/90 gear oil in my trans and didn't notice any difference from the harley oil. I ran syn3 in my old bike and it shifed like butter.now in my '03 I tried amsoil 20/50 in the trans and its about the same. its gl1 rated and shear stabilised so it should work fine.the harley trans is so simple and loose in design you can use just about any weight oil it it, and it will perform about the same. if you have your clutch , cable ,and primary chain adjusted correctly  you wont need designer heavy weight gear oil to work good and last long.,,

In the Tulsa, OK area both Harley service managers recommend the Bel-Ray tranny lube.  I had it put in my tranny at the 5k service in my 07 Heritage and tranny is much quiter than with the Syn 3 that was in it before.  Funny thing was the OK City Harley service guy said Bel-Ray would void my warranty but in Tulsa both Harley dealer are swearing by it and say they will have no problem honoring my warranty with Bel-Ray in the tranny.

babs ... noticed all same with my 07 FXDL... at 1K service had Syn3 put in all three holes, mistake at least for the tranny.. at 4500 drained same and horridly found silver colored Syn 3 with residue covering the plug magnet... figure had I kept Syn3 in there I'd have no gears left by 20K !  Anyway, replaced fluid with Redline Heavy Shockproof Gear Oil and noticed immediate improvement in shifting and lack of noise any gear... at 7.5K.. feeling unease that there might still be gear junk lurking suspended in residue Syn3 lube mixed with the new Redline, I drained tranny again... this time fluid colored like pepto b however no silver color, and nothing on the plug magnet... I was elated and thru in a fresh quart of Redline... maybe at 20K I'll replace it again, but until then... no more worries, just smoothier, quieter shifting... R/ Ed H VaBch, Va

Yep, Have noticed tranny is much quiter with Bel-Ray than Syn-3 and also seems like I can go faster in 5th before having to go to 6th for some reason.

Bates #2 in Dallas has both the Amsoil 20 50  and the specto new 6 sp platinum Heavy Duty, Im going to try the spectro tomorrow, Ill tell ya'll what I think, Im running the Mobil one 75 140 now, much better than HD fluid they had in it. I dont mind changing it out every few weeks till I find the one I like best. The Red Line HD Shock Pruff is available around here too, after I go thu the amsoil trial (if Im not totaly satified w spectro), all try that. Im happy with Mobil 1 15 50 syn in the primary and will probly leave that be for now. I will try the Amsoil 20 50 crank case at 2500, Im at 1800 now. The specto is pretty high dollar by comparison. but the Mobil One wasnt cheap either. The Red Line Shock Pruff Heave Duty Is about 9 bucks.

At about 150 milles I see only a very small if any improvement over the Mobil 1, Ill give it another day or two.

Im not that much into how it works, just IF it works, after 600 miles, the spectro has that clunky six speed shifting like a pair of silk panties, the diference from oem, then mobil 1 75/140 and now the spectro is night n day.

I was a firm believer in the redline shockproof heavy until I tried the new spectro platinum. It's worth every penny over the redline and the same with the M1 that I used too. Spectro from now on.

I bought a 2003 Deuce SE deuce the other day with very low miles. I drove it and then let the wife drive it on the first day. She said boy that trans sure shifts smooth and I agreed. I told her I was going to change all the fluids because I didn't know  the history. Drained the trans and out came gear oil of some type.
I am changing all of our bikes to Mobil1 75-90

Found a Pep Boys going out of business (unfortunately 3 weeks after the close out started) BUT I was able to pick up 5 bottles of Mobil 1 75/90 and 75/140, plus 2 bottles of Royal Purple. Gonna look for the Mobil 1 V-Twin for the engine and primary, but I'll start using these on the next change - about 2500 miles away.

I just put the new Spectro fully synthetic 6-speed 75w140 gear oil in my 06 Low Rider's tranny today.  I only had time to ride it for about 10 miles so it will be a few more rides before I can post results.  It is VERY red in color and looks like it could double for cough syrup.  I will post results.

ok time to do some serious thinking here.
Why would HD put sny3 in if it would screw up Trans??
They would not.
Spectro is the lastest and greatest.
No been around BMW uses it as factory install.
They have tran failures from time to time.
Amsoil well we all know they have been tell us for years it will do everything even bring back the dead.
Wrong.
Then theres SLICK 50 heck you can drain your oil and drive the bike for a week no damage.
ok and want to buy a brigde to Manhatten?
Most oils and lube are not that different most are made in same plants different bottle.
There is NO SUCH thing as an INDEPENDENT review.
EVERYONE has an angle.
You can tell nothing by sound on how a lube works.
Thick lubes may quiet them but may not lube better.
POINT.. we use to put saw dust in trans and rear end to quiet them.
I can not count the number of lastest and greatest products  that have come and gone or been repackaged many times.
HD or for that madder no one would NOT recommend a product that was destroy you trans.
MY Fatboy has 45,000 hard miles on it never had anything but HD products in it.
NO problems at all. I would ride that bike anywere right now.
My 07 RoadGlide has 14,000 on it doing just fine.
Company I work for has more equipment than you can count they spend millions of dollars year looking for way to make it run longer and better.
They have found it makes no difference what lubes you use as long as they are major bands.
What does madder is FILTERS there is a difference.
Doing service when needed is big cost saver.
It's you BIKE your Money sort out the BS and and put the extra cash in the gas tank and Ride more.

Red Line heavy in Baker DD6. With the Royal purple and the Amsoil the tranny was loud when I got on it (145hp 127") changed to the Red line, noise + flakes went away. Baker recommends it because of the shock proof additive, it protects the gears against heavy loading I wouldn't use anything else.

What the poll doesn't check is if you use two different types depending on season.

had HD Formula+ (you know the stuff made by CITGO, the little commie dictators oil) but 3rd and 4th gear had a whine. Switched to Mobile 75W90 got a little better changed it to Amsoil sever gear 75-90 today and boy is it better. I'm Amsoil from here on. (no more commie oil for me, Amsoil is all American) Amsoil 20W50 in the other two holes.

What weight tranny fluid is usually recommended in a Street Glide 07, can you go heavier than 75W90 for Trans?

Dave69:

I'm very particular about the products I use in my '07 Ultra, and after trying several different lubricants in the tranny I settled on the new Spectro full synthetic 75W140.  Spectro designed it specifically for the H-D 6 speeds, and it works just as well in the earlier 5-speeds.  As with any oil question, you'll get lots of recommendations here on the Forum; and there are a few great gear oils that will work just fine in your SG.

Good luck!

OK guys, its late and I am still trying to figuring out what the (Kiddy bar the door) is going on..
I ve read and read and read this forum and others trying to decide what oil to put in my 07 Heritage,,,,
So far I think there are to many differences in the different years of our bikes ( evo, twin cam, shovels, etc) to pick a single oil for all motors,,, and for sure the different motors that you-all have.. I mean weather your stock, stage one ,88in, 96in, or you have a 130 hp and 130#'s, tq road stomper in SD Cal, or Fl or up north, it makes a big difference!!!!!.
I mean that Smitty 901 stated a lot of things that go into the formula that most people dont include, I remember car dealers putting saw dust in trans and rear ends, their might be some of u that dont know what that was for,,,,,Us old dudes do...Just as thicker oil quiets down motors, so did saw dust...But is it good for the motor in the long run???????

Just to let you know my background:: I am retired GM -Delphi 38 yrs  Machine Repairmen and Maintainance skilled trades....
Not to try to impress anybody, but to at least let people know I am not a complete dummy either, in the art of luberication of equipment and motors.....
We all know that the motor produces heat, but the shear factor of oil running in the tranmisson makes the oil produce heat and makes the oil brake down more so than heat... So the oid requirements is quite different than engine oil.
I am still trying to learn the in and outs of HD motor oils. I Have in the yrs of my expirence learned that mobil is probable the best oil that we at GM used in our DELPHI plant in IN...
So I am still not sure weather to use SYN3 or go to Mobil 1 20-50 in all 3 in my 07 Heritage or Mobil 1 in two and put mobil 1 in the tranmission..................?????????????????????/

I've tried various 75-'90 and a few 75-140 weights.I think 90 is too light, and 140 is  way too heavy. Gonna try amsoil 75w-110 and see how it is. I won't put motor oil in my tranny.......too much detergent and not enough anti wear additives.Show me 1 trucker that puts motor oil in their tranny!
