I've tried the 75/90 wt gear oil and I could smell it when it got hot. drained it out and am using amsoil 20/50 which has a gl1 rating ,and I can't tell any difference. I get it from my friend who is a dealer and its about half what the name brand syn gear oil costs. Used it in my other bike and it also shifted smooth and was quiet. if you need a heavy gear oil to make your trans quiet or to shift better, you've got something else wrong with it.,,

I just switched from Sny3 to Royal Purple 75w-140w full synthetic gear oil. According to the Royal Purple web site you should get a cooler transmission, better gas mileage, less wear and tear on your gears, etc. I did notice that the annoying "wine" noise seems to be gone. It was the "wine noise" that drove me crazy. Also according to the label on the bottle the 75w-140w was designed for high performance motorcycle transmissions. That is why I picked the 75w-140w. I'll let you know how it worked out once I get some miles on the bike. Thumbnail Image

Haven't heard one word on the RedLine MTL, anyone using it?? Also, many talk of the Mobil 1 V-Twin oil, good stuff I'm sure, as I use Mobil 1 Syn in my F150, My major concern, M1 V-Twin, does not meet the new rating HD calls for! CI4, this is a diesel rating because of the new emissions laws. Any input as to other Syns that meet this new rating? I am partial to RP and Amsoil, but need to meet the ratings for me.

ok my twocents forwhat its worth nobody has used the combonation of oils i used and i read throught every lube related threadon this forum, now i have been riding since i was 13 i am 43 now, owned more bikes than i can count, i am on my second harley and its my belief that engines espeially aircooled engines have different requirments in the winter and summer, ie thinner in the winter thicker in the summer, i am at 2800 miles now on an 07 street bob , i am in california and it regularly gets way over a hundred degrees here in the summer monthes i see no reason to go with the expensive oils now since the bike is still breaking in really until the 5000 mille mark at which time i intend to go with mobil 1 20 50 in the crank, but for this go around i went with valvoline 4 stroke motorcycle oil in the 20 / 50 weight and since the hot weather is hear i went with valvoline 85/ 140 in the tranmission and rotella 15/40 in the primary, i don't know if i hit upon gold with this combo but the tranny is quiet as hell the thing shifts like butter, and in fact when i finished up and took it on the freeway i was at about 70 and swore i was in 6th gear and my indicator light wasn't working but sure enough i pulled the clutch and hit sixth gear and the thing just flew like she had wings anyways i will go back after the sunner season to a 75/90 or so and perhaps a 10/40 but 20/50 is pretty decent all year long unless you live in wisconson or something it doesnt get down to lower than the 30s or 40's in the winter in california, so anyway that is my experience and my story do with it what you will, and thanks for all the advice on the board its a priceless resource freebyrd
