Hey guys new to the forum and have a question maybe some of you might can shed some light. I have a mostly stock 97 Heritage Classic. Vance and Hines longshots K&N air filter. Other than that all stock 1340 EVO. The bike runs great but lacks giddy up. Seems to be geared to low or something. Tachs up very quick and goes through all five gears real fast. Is this common to the bike or the EVO. Is it the pulley, the ignition, the tranny? Just got the bike this summer. Love it but wish it had a little more throw me back in my seat off the red light know what I mean?

If you want to get some more juice out of your engine there's a few things you could "upgrade". First I would recommend getting a better cam, adjustable lifters, then get a better ignition module, then you'll need to get a mild head porting job. You've already done the air cleaner and pipes along with the jetting so you should get some more "throw me back in my seat off the red light" when you throw these items into the mix. You should come in around $500.00 - $800.00, depending on where you get your parts.

Is the Sreamin Eagle ignition a good way to go? Is there a better option out there somewhere? Harley parts are so darn expensive.
The screamin Eagle ignition is okdepending on what mods you have or are planning,if you were to fit another cam and headwork, and maybe a carby the you would be better off with a single fire system like a Crane Hi 4 or something
The stock EVO 80" motor (especially carbed models) are 'choked' by regulation to the point that it barely feels like an 80" engine. The first thing I was told to do to my motor was to 'get the air in and the exhaust out' faster. When I went to the SE air cleaner and SuperTrapps it was like having a whole new bike.
The SE ignition is the least expensive way to go for an improved 'curve' and higher rev limit. But there are many other good module out there, most are 'programable': Crane, Dyna, etc. I've got the Dyna2000 with stock coil. Works great, rev limit is 6500 (which is the limit for stock springs). When you look at a dyno printout you'll see that the stock module cuts out just as the motor wants to make horsepower.
Do some research based upon the type/style of rider you are before you invest in a cam upgrade. The Heritage is a heavy bike, not as heavy as a RK, Classic, or Ultra bagger, but it's no FXR either. If you ride two up quite a bit, or run solo. I really like my EV27 cam in my FLHS. But there are other grinds available. Pick one that build the power where you want it. You will definitely 'feel' the difference between the stock cam and a good aftermarket one. Lastly get a 'street' porting job done to your heads. Nothing too radical, just smooth and blend. Any reputable head porter will know what to do. A decent porting will add horsepower (without a large drop in torque) to your combo.
You can change the drive sprocket for a bit more tire shredding launch, but I'd opt for the aftermarket cam, ignition, head work, before I started screwing with the final drive ratio.
You will not need to change the carb, a CV is a great carb, up to about 90 HP, it just needs to be de-EPA'd. There are a few tricks to get that carb to perform way better than it did when it left the MoCo. As far as the ignition goes... I would suggest you look into the Crane or Dyna brands, they are both proven modules and you should be able to find info on the net about them. Then there's the cam... I've had Andrews and found it to be a great cam, however there are others out there.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess I am going to start with getting a dyno run at TNT DYNO here in Nashville. Everyone around here says the guy is the best. I would like to keep my mods light at this point. Want to see what I can get without opening the motor. Ignition, jet kit, coil, wires and plugs. But I'll see what the guy at TNT says and go from there. He helped a buddy o mine get 12hp from his electraglide with just some tuning and a different slip on muffler. And at $50 for the DYNO it will give me a starting reference point. I'll keep ya posted as to what he recommends and what I decide and how it turns out.
