took some vids of the drag races this weekend w/ my cell phone but i can only play them on the phone. did some searching but that got me more confused. anyone know of a good software that will convert them into .mpegs ?
Since the format that the phone downloads in is likely going to be phone specific, can you tell us the type of file that you get when you do the download? It may show you the file type when you look at full details in Windows Explorer (View, Details). At the very least, make sure Explorer shows you the "extension" (Tools, Folder Options, View, uncheck "Hide Extensions for Known File Types") and tell us what the file extension is.
And the first dude was just trying to help. You really didn't say that you knew how to download them to your computer. With my wifes phone, they want you to "send" any pics or video over their network so you'll chew up airtime and really try to avoid giving you an easy way to download the files directly. So what I'm saying "you gotta get them on your computer" is not such a stupid comment based on the phone and cell service and (lack of) tools available.
well, i thought that "converting" might imply that all i'm concerned with is converting the files to a viewable format and that "only on the phone" might have also implied that i had tried to view them somewhere other than the phone, i.e. the computer. and i also kind of assumed that if anyone knew of the right software that did this, the would also understand what had gotten me to that point and not need the explaination. my bad.
so,
the file on the phone is a .3G2 format. that is a video format that most new cell phones (especially those w/ windows mobile 5) use based on the .mp4 format.
i can send the file to another phone with video capabilities and it works fine. what i am trying to do is get it off the phone so that i can share it in a format that everyone can see. i can email the file off the phone as well as synch it off the phone but the format will not play in most traditional desktop media players.
most software i have found is designed to convert .mpeg and .avi files TO a phone format so you can watch stuff on the phone. what i need is the other way around. and since most of them are not free, i was hoping someone would know which one works well without me blowing money on guessing.
i thought there was a good chance that somone on here that is doing videos and such had also shot some video on their phone and had the same problem.
i just get annoyed when people just throw up a reply without really reading a post (mine or anyone elses post for that matter). and even if he did know about the "converting", his post still didn't help. maybe "assuming you have gotten the video off the phone, what do you mean by converting?" or "can't help ya but i'm interested to find out"
besides, it's some cool video of the All Harley Drags with a few clips of some nitro bikes that i thought yall would enjoy.
