I am organizing an HD Forums SW Mini Rally for any members that might be interested. This is going to be a riding rally through the Colorado Rockie Mountains. There are 22 paved mountain passes in Colorado that are in excess of 10,000 ft., and we are going to go to each of them, plus a ride to the top of Mt. Evans, which is the highest paved highway in the USA.
This ride will start in Bloomfield, NM on June 25 and end in Chama, NM on June 29th. The ride will be about 300 to 350 miles per day, and will usually require between 10 and 12 hours each day due to the twisties, and the scenic stops. By starting on Monday and ending on Friday, everyone will have a weekend to get here, and a weekend to get home.
We are calling it the "Haul *** for the Pass" ride, and I am having T-Shirts made that will depict a donkey on a motorcycle with the mountains in the background. The back will be like a concert tour T-Shirt with the names and elevations of all the passes on it.
I will have packets available around the 1st of the year that will include maps, motel availability, etc. for anyone that would like one. Just PM me your address.
This ride is going to be very informal, and everyone is going to be encouraged to ride at their own pace rather than trying to ride as a group the whole time. We can then meet in the evenings to hash over the days events.
This ride will be a little challenging, but something of an accomplishment as well.
I am planning a "meet and greet" with supper at my house on the evening of the 24th before the ride.
It would be the vacation time that would keep us from coming. That's a lot of time off and we promised to take the kids somewhere this year. We'll keep it in mind and see what we can swing. We both would like to stay at that hotel....that would be cool!

Wow Bill! That sound awesome. Wish we could swing it.
Indiana!! two days here, two days back, a week of great riding. We'd love to have you. And Sean wanted to see the "Shining" hotel.
Are you referring to the hotel where they filmed the shining?
I don't know if they filmed it there, but the Stanley Hotel was the inspiration for King's Book "The Shining". It is located in Estes Park, Colorado, and will be on the route that we are taking.
he show Ghost Hunters just did an epeisode on the Stanley Hotel. Looked pretty cool. Now that is a ride the wife and i might be able to make. Seems all the big rallies are starting to be the same, just different locals. We did some riding on the way to Sturgis last year thru Colorado and man it was great. Will have to look at a map and see where in N.M. it is but it cant be more n a days ride from Tucson. The wife has family in Durango so it might turn into an extended vacation for us. Sounds great.
Bill, Lynne and I are planning a trip next summer and will be swinging through the Silver City area then heading north. We'll probably only make southern Colorado. I think we are going to try to rent a cabin and stay a few days on the Conejos. So, maybe we can hook up with everyone around Chama. We'll do our best.
