B.W.A.: Bobber-Style Sportster Is a Modern Classic

‘Cherry Bobber Special’ combines a modern machine with old school elements to make one sweet package.

One of the most appealing things about Harley-Davidson motorcycles is that they’re infinitely customizable. And since many H-D bikes still embrace their predecessor’s vintage styling today, you can buy a brand new bike and turn it into a real retro machine. That’s exactly what Led-Sled Customs of Dayton, Ohio did when they built this sweet Bobber.

We spotted the ride, dubbed “Cherry Bobber Special,” in the Hemmings classifieds recently. The Bobber might be titled as a 2017 ASVE motorcycle, but it’s anything but new — in style or components. It all started with a Sportster XL8, but this is an entirely custom bike now.

The engine was sourced from a 1992 Sportster, but the 1,200cc lump was built up by NRHS V-Twin Performance of Longmont, Colorado. It sits inside of a Sport 86 OEM 0x30 frame with a belt-to-chain conversion for a true old school look. Wheels are the appropriate chrome spokes, with a wide white tire out back, of course.

Other old school goodies include the springer forks, cushion spring seat, chrome Bobber headlight, and flat top rear fender. The build was completed back in 2006, and graced the pages of American Iron Magazine back in 2008. But the best thing about this sweet Bobber is that no matter how new or old it really is, it has a look that will remain timeless — forever.
