Declaration of Independents: Word of Mouth is a Great Indicator
Your bike is a precious part of you and your life, and you shouldn’t just hand it over to anyone.
The internet is an excellent way of checking out a mechanic’s reputation and credentials, plus you may be able to find reviews on certain white page sites. But in my experience, word of mouth is the best way to judge someone’s work. If the guy is an idiot and doesn’t know what he’s doing, people are going to talk about it.
If he knows his subject matter and does work in a timely manner, people won’t hesitate to recommend him. Ask around in your local area, you might be surprised how much info you can dig up.
