‘H-D Forums’ Members Pitch in to Bless Beautiful Husky with a New Home

When an HD Forums member jumps in to save a worthwhile pup, many other members chip in to help make it happen.

Most of the time, we here at HD Forums talk about Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Because, well, we’re a Harley-Davidson enthusiast site. But the members that make up the HD Forums community are much more than just motorcycle enthusiasts – they’re genuinely great people with big hearts. They’re the first to offer help when others need it, and that fact was clearly on display in a seriously heart-warming story that began when one member was trying to find a new home for his daughter’s 3-year-old Husky. It wasn’t long before another member, SpyGoat, offered to take the beautiful dog in, and documented his story in this thread.

“As you all know by now, IBE’s daughter Emily has to give up Freya, a pure white 3-year old-female Husky, due to extenuating circumstances. Though it is difficult for her and she was in tears making the decision, this truly is the best course of action for all involved, especially Freya.

My wife and I have been looking for a companion for our 4-year-old male Husky, Apollo. This was a perfect match, especially since my wife and I had decided on the name Freya for our next pup. It seemed like a long shot, really, a dog in Redding, California and a potential new home on Long Island in New York. IBE and I got to talking and after I heard the whole story. I really wanted to adopt Freya. My wife and IBE’s daughter began talking on the phone and I knew we had to find a way to get this done.”

Obviously, going from coast to coast is a long trip. And SpyGoat quickly realized that it was going to be extremely expensive to transport Freya that far. Emily had offered to pay half of the shipping cost, but SpyGoat felt like she shouldn’t have to do that. Luckily, the HD Forums community had his back the entire way.

“The amazing members of HD Forums stepped up to the plate, without anyone asking them to, and began offering to help pay for Freya’s transportation. It soon became obvious that this had momentum. My inbox was flooded with requests for my PayPal info. I never gave it out. I wanted to make sure this was going to happen before I would even consider it. As I got quotes from specialty pet transportation companies, my eyes were opened to just how expensive this could be. I know IBE’s daughter offered to pay half the shipping cost, but it seemed to me like she was giving up enough already and I didn’t want her to have to do that.”

Eventually, another member helped SpyGoat find a shipping company with great reviews willing to do the job for a reasonable price, but it was still going to cost nearly $1,000. But that was nothing the community wasn’t willing to help with, either.

“Then I got the PM from a long-time member of HD Forums who wishes to remain anonymous. He offered to send me a check, overnight, for $1000 to help with the transportation of Freya. He felt this was a worthy cause and that it reinforced his thought that there are still good people in this world. I was cautiously optimistic, but this member is the real deal.”

SpyGoat eventually relented in his refusal to accept help funding Freya’s transportation, agreeing to take donations after being flooded with requests. And since posting his PayPal address, he’s received plenty of monetary assistance from other members. As of now, Freya is scheduled to arrive at her new home on May 30.

Emily posted her story in the thread as well, which reveals that Freya has already escaped once and was nearly shot by farmers who thought she was after their sheep. It’s truly a sad story, but one that thankfully is on track to have a happy ending. If you want to follow along with Freya’s journey or donate to the cause, you can do so by heading over here.
