The B Team. It sounds like the title of a Jackass parody of the A Team or a reflective think-piece about how I wasn’t good enough to make Varsity in high school basketball (or JV, for that matter). In actuality, it’s a group of business men and women who have come together with the essential intention of influencing big companies to make better decisions for the health and future of Earth.

Jochen Zeitz, who is part of Harley-Davidson’s Board of Director’s and the company’s chair for the sustainability committee, is a co-founder and co-chair of The B Team. Earlier this year, he, along with the 13 other members, penned an open letter calling for a net-zero greenhouse-gas economy by 2050

“The net zero goal with a 2050 time frame points to an action plan for a progressive CEO in a way that an abstract temperature target more than 50 years out will not do,” he said. “It focuses the mind on what needs to be done – from the point of view of one business to the planet.”

Some might find this strange coming from such a traditional petrol-based company, but as you all know, H-D does have the Livewire electric motorcycle project. The problem with that, however, is that it’s still years away from hitting showrooms, it’ll likely be much more expensive, and it’s still only one motorcycle in a huge range for a company that’s struggling.

The next five years will be huge for how H-D would look in 35 years … if it’s still around (DUN DUN DUNNNNNN *GASP*).
