Harley Dealer Holds Chili Cook-Off to Benefit Vets and Pets
When you get a chance to eat good while helping our nation’s heroes and rescue animals, how could you resist?
Living in central New York this time of year isn’t much fun for Harley enthusiasts. Snow is often measured in feet, not inches, and temperatures often don’t make it past single digits. But the needs of our country’s heroes don’t know seasons. And neither do our cravings for some killer home cooking! Luckily, Binghamton’s Southern Tier Harley-Davidson has the answer for both with its annual Chili Cook-Off.
Over two dozen crock pots of deliciousness showed up for this year’s event, all competing for the top prize. A panel of “celebrity” judges were lucky enough to taste test each one and choose a winner. Those folks included Senator Fred Akshar, Sheriff David Harder, and Tanya from Magic 101.7 FM.
As satisfying as the event is for all those who attended, there is a bigger purpose driving the event. All of the proceeds go to Hounds Helping Heroes, an organization that provides vets and active duty service members with trained rescue dogs. The gifted animals have proven to be a remarkable asset for those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. And it’s truly a win-win situation, as the dogs get a new lease on life, too!
The event also gives Southern Tier a chance to show that Harley riders have huge hearts. “Some people have a thing of bikers, they think they’re just big bad guys, but they’re really kind-hearted,” Carrie Graham, Marketing Coordinator for Southern Tier Harley Davidson, explained to Fox 40 News. “They do everything that they can to help veterans, children, and anyone that they can help for a good cause. They’re there to do it.”
Of course, you didn’t have to tell us that. But rarely do we see events that benefit not only our nation’s heroes, but rescue animals, too!
