Harley to market the XR1200 in the US

XR1200.jpegHarley Davidson first debuted the XR1200 at the Intermot International Motorcycle Exhibition in Cologne, Germany in 2006, looking to measure the overseas interest in the dirt-track racer inspired Harley.

That viewing of the bike went well, and in early 2008 HD announced that they would be producing the XR1200, but to the dismay of the domestic Harley faithful it was only released in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

However, this week Harley Davidson has quietly made the XR1200
available here in the US.  Presumably based on the negative opinions
around the original launch, the subtle American announcement was brief,
having been little more than an announcement on a Westminster,
California HD dealership website that they would be taking orders for
the XR1200 through December 12, 2008..  There will be 750 units
available, and the MSRP online is listed as $11,179 for what appears to
be a standard XR1200, finished in the familiar orange and black

The
initial launch of the XR1200 met mixed reviews in the US, but the lack
of domestic availability got even more negative attention.  Would the
bike have met the same opinions if it had been released in the United
States first?  Tell us what you think here.
