Hog Heroes: Leroy Petry

leroy-petry.jpgOn May 8, 2008, Sergeant First Class Leroy Petry of the 2nd Ranger Battalion, United States Army was already wounded when he picked up a grenade and tossed it from the chicken coop he and his fellow Rangers were using for cover.

He lost his hand in the explosion, but his efforts managed to save the lives of his fellow soldiers during that fierce firefight in Afghanistan. In recognition of his heroism, Petry was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. It’s the highest award an individual in the United States Armed Forces can earn, and he’s only the second person to receive it while living.

When he’s not deployed, Petry loves riding his Harley-Davidson, which makes him a true American hero who rides a Harley. That’s about as cool as a person can get.
