Celebrate the work of a Hollywood icon with music, movies and motorcycles at New Mexico’s ‘Dennis Hopper Day.’

In 2010, Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico, made May 17 “Dennis Hopper Day.” Dennis Hopper was a Hollywood icon who turned in unforgettable performances in classic films like Rebel Without a Cause and Blue Velvet. He was also an incredible screenwriter and filmmaker responsible for the 1969 movie Easy Rider, which he also famously co-starred in alongside Peter Fonda. But Hopper also was a resident of Taos, New Mexico, and in 2014, Taos Pueblo officially made Dennis Hopper Day an annual tradition, with a bike rally and memorial ride. This year, the tradition continues with what’s surely going to be the biggest Dennis Hopper Day yet.

Speaking at last year’s rally, Richardson said, “It is fitting and an honor that the State of New Mexico extends appropriate recognition and deep appreciation to Dennis Hopper, a cultural icon and friend to many, for his artistic and cultural contributions to our State and to the entire world.”

The 2017 Dennis Hopper Day festivities are set to be bigger than ever. May 17t starts off with the Easy Rider Rally and Ride, sponsored by Sante Fe Harley-Davidson. Everyone participating in the ride will get a Dennis Hopper Day patch. After the ride, attendees are going to enjoy a BBQ dinner and Dennis Hopper film festival. Finishing off the night is a commemorative concert. Dennis Hopper Day is a great way for film fans, and especially Harley-Davidson riders, to celebrate the life and career of a true American original.

Registration is open at the Dennis Hopper Day website.
