Meet Globetrotting Pinstripe Artist Dave Letterfly

From sea to shining sea, he’s added a hand-painted custom touch to bikes all over.

Harley-Davidson’s 115th Anniversary celebration in Milwaukee has grown beyond the borders of the factory walls, taking over dealerships, bars, and other spots throughout the city. It’s bringing people together from all over the country to celebrate the history of this American brand.

One of the pilgrims who made his way to he Milwaukee motorcycle Mecca is Dave Letterfly. True to his name, he’s traveled all across the country to put his mark on countless Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Letterfly is a traditional pinstripe artist, who has carefully honed his skills through a lifetime of passion and practice. It’s no secret that pinstriping requires precision, skill, finesse, and most importantly, a steady hand. From what we’ve seen, Letterfly has all of these skills in spades and then some.

With a graying moustache sitting atop a mischievous smile, it’s clear that he’s been at this a while. Apparently, his passion for pinstriping began in childhood.

In an interview with Milwaukee’s Fox 6 Now News, Letterfly pinpoints the exact moment that sparked his lifelong love of the art of pinstriping:

“This is what I call an old school pinstripe design. When I was big enough to see out of the car, I noticed pinstripe designs on the other automobiles and I had the thought ‘I could do that.’ I’m a lifetime learner.”

A pinstripe design on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle symbolizes not just the personal tastes of the bike’s owner, but the influence and style of the pinstripe artist as well. That’s why it’s important to select the right pinstripe artist should you choose to add some custom flair to your Harley’s paint job.

One thing’s for sure, though: should Dave Letterfly make his way out to our neck of the woods, we’d sure like to turn him loose on our bikes. After seeing his work and hearing about his passion for it, there’s no way we could be disappointed.
