Shorai Batteries Want You to Lighten Up

The average motorcycle battery weights 9.5 pounds, contains a bunch of explosive gasses and uses technology over 100-years old.

The good news is that just like with our laptops, cell phones and tablets, battery technology is advancing rapidly. Shorai has developed a new Lithium Iron Phosphate line of motorcycle batteries called the LFX. Offering tremendous weight savings (anywhere between four and fifteen lbs. over standard lead acid batteries), much lower self-discharge rates, quicker starting and no sulfation.

If none of that sounds particularly exciting to you, consider the following: Shorai Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries save weight, space, maintenance time while offering more consistent starts, no cold temperature concerns and can be mounted at any angle (even upside down).

Service life on Shorai batteries is actually more than double that of comparable lead-acid (and absorbed glass mat/ AGM) batteries, with no voltage drop even after a year on the shelf (or in the parked bike). Best of all, unlike most new technology, the product line accommodates virtually all bikes manufactured in the past forty years (including rare six-volt sizes for vintage equipment).

Prices start at $99.85, a bit pricier than low-end lead acid units (but comparable to high quality lead acid batteries) and since power capacity ranges upwards of 540 CCA, even the most stubborn engines will turn over with ease.
