Fake XR750 Flat Tracker Looks Like Real Fun Ride

Harley-Davidson Sportster

The look of a thoroughbred for the price of a work horse.

Look at this iron head Sportster quick and you might mistake it for a genuine XR750 flat track racer. The tank, tail, seat and fork are right, and the carb mounted at an angle with a big filter on it approximates the look of the real deal. But the set of twin cut off exhaust pipes are on the wrong side of the bike, when compared to the real deal. What we have here is a nicely done-up tribute to the mighty XR750 that maintains the street motor and even adds an electric start. Iron head Sporties of this vintage are typically one of the bargains of the old Harley market, with Hagerty estimating a stock 1970 model worth $6,000 in good, riding condition.

Hang some hidden LED lights on it and a license plate and this street tracker would be one sweet bar hopper. Put a front brake on it, too, if you are going to play in traffic.

This bike has been updated with a 1979 1000cc Sportster motor and what looks to be a Keihin round slide carb. The tires are wrong for a flat tracker, but a set of the Duro 308 copy of the vintage Pirelli that should be on there are cheap. What wasn’t cheap was getting a set of Borrani alloy rims laced up to the hubs, or that custom-painted body work. Hang some hidden LED lights on it and a license plate and this street tracker would be one sweet bar hopper. You may want to put a front brake on it, too, if you are going to play in traffic.

This sporty Sportster goes up for auction in Las Vegas from June 1-3 with Mecum. Check out more about it and the rest of the lots here.
