What’s Up in the Forums: Harley Owner Seeks Supportive Solo Seat

Harley-Davidson Solo Seat

Breakout rider heads to our forums to find a seat that won’t leave him sore and stranded. And, of course, he gets the best advice available.

While most of us would love to believe that we’re total badasses, truth is, sometimes we all appreciate a little extra support for our backsides. Especially as we, um, age gracefully. So when Lonely Drifter on a Harley Breakout needed some advice on a new seat for his ride, he smartly sought advice from the folks who had been there and done that in our forums.

Lonely’s demands are quite simple. He wanted a solo seat that would push him at least one inch forward (he’s 5’8″) and make it easy for him to flat foot. Plus, he needs a seat that has some extra, ahem, support on the backside to keep him from sliding off under acceleration. Sounds easy enough.

Dongoati, a fellow Breakout owner, suggests the Mustang Fred Kodlin seat. As does 02603SEC, who already sports the curvy solo seat on his ride.

“I have the Fred Kodlin seat from Mustang and it does everything your asking for and it is very comfortable.”

Both Redlegvzv and Freak Show recommend the Ultimate Seat, which features a backrest for some extra support.

dfwhockey17 prefers form over function, but at least his recommendation will help the OP reach the pedals easier.

“The rule of thumb when it comes to seats is: The cooler the seat looks, the more uncomfortable it is, and vise versa. I have a Danny Gray Buttcrack solo on my FLSTN and absolutely love the way it looks. That being said, after 100 miles I want to be anywhere but sitting on it as it might as well be a 2×4…I think my seat would look killer on your bike if they make it. It is lower than stock so it will help with your vertical challenged status…”

After a little bit of frustration and indecisiveness, HKMark23 chimes in with a great recommendation.

“I’m pretty much decided on a Cherokee by Le Pera when I go aftermarket. I’ve done some old school modding with tall sissy and apes, etc. so the Cherokee would suit me well. Done a few other mods too, like 3″ tank lift and I just finished with 2” fork extensions (uppers). Its a work in progress What's Up in the Forums: Harley Owner Seeks Supportive Solo Seat.

I think you can see where the Cherokee seat would suit this thing:”

Ultimately, the OP hasn’t decided on anything…yet. But we’re sure plenty of other folks will chime in soon with other recommendations. So if you’re in the market for a new seat, be sure and follow along in the forum!
