‘Women’s Motorcycle Show 3’ Shut Down by (Impressed) Police

Women's Motorcycle Show

Third annual SoCal event celebrating women bikers is so successful it attracts the attention of the local constabulary.

If you’re an automotive and/or motorcycle enthusiast living in Los Angeles, you already know the drill. If not, we’ll just say that the local constabulary don’t share our love for custom machinery. In fact, they’re much more interested in shutting down parties and handing out tickets than scoping out sweet Harleys. And after MotoLady‘s “Womens’ Motorcycle Show 3” drew record crowds, they were there to crash the party.

The brainchild behind the event, Alicia Elfving, probably didn’t imagine thousands of people showing up at Lucky Wheels Garage to celebrate women riders. But that they did, filling several blocks of Los Angeles’ Arts District with bikes and badass ladies, including the appropriately named Joy Fire, who showed off her blacksmith skills with some hot metal and a hammer.

There were welding and pinstriping demos, bangin’ music, and of course, loads of sweet bikes everywhere. Attendees could enter raffles for goodies including a custom gas tank and gift cards.

‘Hearing two LAPD officers tell you “this is the coolest event we’ve ever had to shut down” is definitely the feather in my cap.’

Of course, all of this awesomeness attracted record crowds that easily eclipsed the first two years of the Women’s Motorcycle Show. Including, it seems, a police helicopter and several squad cars.

In all fairness, L.A.’s finest didn’t have a problem with the party itself. More with the scores of bikes blocking the local roads and sidewalks. For her part, Elfving didn’t seem to mind. If nothing else, the police presence solidifies the incredible success of the Women’s Motorcycle Show.

“They actually thought the event was really cool and want to help us out next year with keeping it on the up-and-up,” Elfving wrote on her Facebook page. “I was so proud and happy, hearing two LAPD officers tell you ‘this is the coolest event we’ve ever had to shut down’ is definitely the feather in my cap.”

OK, so maybe party-shuttering L.A. cops aren’t that bad, after all.
