Grip replacement on a 2014 Road king
 

I am looking to replace the OEM grips on my 2014 Road King. I have replaced grips before on the 09 Heritage I had before. Those were quite easy. On this bike with the fly by wire throttle, that side seems like it should be easy as well. I am more worried about the information button on the clutch side. I have searched this site and the internet for information. Only thing I found is that that button seems to be an issue. Found that post on this site. Could not find any detailed information any where else. Has anyone on here replaced grips with this information button and have you had any problems? Is there a special procedure in doing this? Thanks for your time.

I have not replaced mine but I have had them off several times with no problems.

That trigger button on the left.......just pop it up and then it will slide horizontally towards them grip. Takes more effort than you think at first.

If you don't take it off you can still swap grips, it's just more fiddley.

The top of the trip button slides off toward the end of the bars. Wedge a small screwdriver between the control and button top and force it outward. It's snapped into place.

Feels like it's going to break but it won't. I've done a couple and getting ready to do my '15 Ultra.

I did my 14 King with no problems with the trip button. On the right side, much easier then the old cable system.

If you decide to install heated grips, I did it on my 14RK and can help you with it. It isn't hard unless you try to follow the crappy instructions.
I would not have another bike without them.

Have been debating over and over again if I want the heated grips. Don't really like the options offered by Harley. All the other options online aren't what I like either. I would really like the help if I go that way. I have never done heated grips before. What is the extra wiring harness they talk about that is needed? Is there a lot of wiring exposed with these? Have to admit I have never looked that close to a bike with heated grips. Makes sense to go that way though as my riding here in Idaho always seems to be cold. LOL

The extra harness is a can-bus adaptor. It plugs into one of the plugs under the left side cover. Only one cable is exposed. I will encose a pic of my bike so you can see there isn't much showing. You need to lift the gas tank to run the wires under. I had my gf help, we didn't take it all the way off. Took like 20 minutes for that total. Pm me if you want my cell to call me later today.
