Hydraulic Clutch and Front Brake Levers Question

I know with the older bikes I've owned, pre Rushmore, you always had to place a shim of cardboard in between the lever and the perch when removing the front brake lever so as not to damage the brake switch and rubber bootie. I want to swap levers on my Ultra and I was looking through the service manual and it did not suggest that shim of cardboard when removing the levers. From experience, who has changed levers on their Rushmore and what did you do? Thanks.

Yes the same method applies.. I am not sure why you did not see that in your service manual

Thanks Joe, I have the OEM Service manual and it didn't show that step for some odd reason, I know the switch is a little different now, but I figured some precaution still must be taken.

Yes...
Have to shim the lever so as not the damage the switch.
Plenty of threads have noted the process.

Good luck.

Its a good thing you checked with the Forum before proceeding to change the levers. What are you replacing them with?

I don't know that it's necessary to shim the brake lever as long as you know to pull the lever in before you try to take it out or put it back in. Once you see the video below it becomes obvious. Shimming step is not in the 2014 or 15 Service Manual, but is in the 11 and 12.

Dresser Dude let me know how it goes, I've got a set of Roland Sands Contrast Cut coming soon.

Good Luck
Bill

I didn't shim it when putting on the Kuryakyns on my 2015...Never really bothered with my 2013 Wide Glide either. Never had an issue- YMMV

Replaced on my wife's Low with RSD adjustable due to clutch engagement point was too far for her little hands didn't read the service manual but just use the old method to replace using card board. RSD lever made a huge difference for ease of grabbing and didn't effect in shifting since her bike has slip and assist clutch.
