Another Screamin Eagle 585 cam question?
So I finalized on the SE 585 cams for my 110 upgrade kit. However, in researching the SE catalog, it states I should use the SE surefit +.030 pushrods (18401-03)? To check that it wasn't a typo, I also checked the tire shredder kit for HD and it also comes with the +.030 pushrods with the SE585 cams in the kit.
Forgive my ignorance, but does this makes sense to have longer pushrods with a higher lift cam? Is it the greater angle that requires a longer pushrod. In addition, I'm using the cometic .040 MLS head gasket that's .005 less than the OEM head gasket. Does anyone think that'll be a problem with the longer pushrods? Also, I'm not a big fan of adjustable pushrods. I've seen more loose and/or broken locks nuts than I care to admit. So, I'm not going that route. Any thoughts will help. |
I would be inclined to think that the heal of the cam is lower than a milder cam so that would require a longer push rod.

The SE 585 cams have a smaller base circle, that's why you need the +.030 push rods.
