There are a few links around with Harley markup. The legitimate mark up I found for the 2014 Limited was around $5,000 from the MSRP of 26k not 25%. Good luck using that to negotiate. I went to a few dealers and the most I got off was from a trade over allowance (increasing the trade in value when really discounting the new bike) for around $2k. The rest of the dealers I delt with stuck to their MSRP and real whole sale trade value for my old bike. They only get so many bikes per year and they know if you don't buy the bike at MSRP or close to it then someone else will.

I bought a new 2014 Ultra Limited for $23K including Freight and Bike Preparation. The only thing I paid in addition was Tax and Tags and Title.
I used in the negotiation process the invoice price from http://www.seedealercost.com |

And we wonder why used prices are dropping so low. If a new 14 Limited can be bought for $23,000 what does that make a 13 Limited worth at trade-in time, let alone a 06, 07, or 08? IMHO, Harley is buildings too many bikes. If the used bike market falls too much they will kill the golden goose. Owners will stop trading in resulting in fewer sales.

The price for that was that trade-in value dropped astronomically. I had been trading every year for about $3500. All of a sudden it was a new world and it was costing me $8k iirc. No more trading every year. That's when I started trading about every 3 or 4 years. That goose has been dead a long time now. jt |
