Steering damper
I have seen steering dampers on touring bike to they help anything at all

A steering damper on a HD touring bike is about the one thing I never thought I needed. They're designed to keep side-to-side fork movement under control. If you have an issue like that on a touring bike, then you don't need to treat the symptoms with a steering damper…you need to treat the disease, i.e., whatever is causing the issue.
Will they help anything else…prevent or mitigate the infamous bagger 'wobble', for example? No idea. For the 'wobble' I think you'd be better off with one of the various frame braces, a TrueTrack, Bagger Brace, Touring Link, etc. Then again, for every guy like me who's nonplused with a steering damper on a bagger, you can probably find another guy who'll swear by it. To answer the question properly for yourself, you probably need to try one, and see what you get. Alan |
