You can take it off once you've uploaded your map.... or leave it on. It has to be there any time you want to update a map, log data or monitor parameters but it isn't doing any harm or good if your phone isn't linked to it via Bluetooth. Its just an interface between the app on your phone and the bike. Its like leaving the extension cord connected to your shop vac.....it doesn't matter if the other end isn't plugged into the wall socket.

Thank you! I like your analogy! So if I want to run an autotune session I can do that without the fp3 hooked up but when I want to flash the info I need to hook back up?
