Anybody else blowing 5amp battery fuses
I have a 14 SGS, it's been a great bike until today. I rode to work this morning no problems as usual. Went to start the bike tonight to head home and no dash lights or ignition functions. Infotainment, head lamps and tail lamps worked. After checking fuses, the 5amp battery fuse was blown.
I plugged the spare in and it popped. I then pulled the battery, checked the wires at the back of the fuse block and reassembled. Inserted another fuse and rode home- mystery? Put the bike in the shop at home and turned on the ignition and again nothing and the fuse was blown. I know it's a short but has anyone experienced this ? Any ideas would be appreciated. |
No, first i've heard of it. But with all the wires etc., even tho most seem well protected something could be chaffing.
Have you done any electrical mods? Sometimes it's like looking for the needle in the haystack, good luck with locating the issue. |

Have you done any electrical mods? Or removed the seat or faring or bottomed the suspension out lately. I would quickly look for that type of obvious wire pinch or damage or tail light bulbs intact before getting to in-depth. |
I looked at the schematic and the 5A battery Fuse supplies, Security siren if equipped, ECM slot 18, Volt meter and Fuel gauge. Color ids R/O
I could post pictures if it would help. |
Thanks for the replies. There is definitely a gremlin in there somewhere.
I rode the bike in again today, no problem. Went to move it about an hour later and fuse blown again. Dealership was unable to pick it up today so I thought I'll pop a fuse in , see if it starts and run it over( only 3-4 miles away) to them. Put a new fuse in, cycled the ignition 3-4 times everything ok. Went to start it about 5 minutes later and again nothing- fuse blown. Vernal, if you could post picks I would really appreciate it. |
68xlch,
No other electrical mods at the moment. I had a pigtail for heated gear connected to the battery but pulled that off first thing when the problem surfaced. I do run a power vision 2 but it's connected to the diagnostic port and still functions when the battery fuse is blown. |
