But yeah, once you hear it, you can't ignore it. I can't believe this silly, simple problem can't be fixed at the source.
Tap it a little tighter, and it will be gone 100% forever.

Yeah, I figured I'd give it another round at some point, though I am a little worried about snapping some plastic bit inside.

Actually, I was wondering about that, too.

You would have to beat the crap out of it in order to try and break something inside. Which would likely mar the outside surface as well. If you manage by some freak miracle to actually damage it, the good news is they can be replaced very easily and cheaply.

True enough, and it's no big deal, but this is the second one, and I'd rather avoid paying for the privilege of trying to fix the third one as well.

Seams understandable to be cautious. I was cautious on the first couple gas caps I did this too as well, although eventually got them to stop, after a couple tries each. Now when I do this, I just whack it firmly in 3-4 spots around the edge and it is good to go every time.

I purchased this set and obviously only used the right side vented piece. Tight as a drum and the matte finish looks better on my tank.

Because of the 2nd dummy cap in the set. The right side fits just fine.

I put one of the wives hair ties under the cap, worked great!
