Heavy Breather Air Cleaner Covers Peg/Brake Fitment Issue.

Edit: Screwed up the title, should've mention the bike. 2018 Fat Bob.

Just installed the screaming Eagle Heavy breather only to realize it covers up the peg/brake. Fits the motor fine.. What an expensive lesson! (This is the one I installed https://www.shoputahharley.com/produ...thr-glss-black)

I suppose I'll be trying to find a more "low profile" cleaner. What are you guys running?

Check out DK Customs.

Well, I’m running a Heavy Breather on an ‘18 Low Rider. Mid controls so interference isn’t a problem. I was torn between it and the SE Extreme Flow. Matter of fact, I had the Exrreme Flow and exchanged it for the HB. So, if you’re sticking with Harley parts maybe check it out. It appears to have a low profile yet an aggressive look to it.

Get peg and brake pad extensions. That's the route I took when I put the spike (that I removed) on.

The Outlaw 587 is the Lowest Profile Air Cleaner you can get. It is also a top performer. No nasty, hot, oily, oxygen depleted air going into your engine to reduce performance & engine longevity. Comes with a huge variety of cover options.

I'm running the finned Polished Aluminum on mine (TC, but fits the M8 also)

And how does this help him with his spike issue exactly???.

Thank you for all of the suggestions guys. Unfortunately I want to maintain factory warranty so aftermarket A/C's are out of the question. I checked out the extension kit, but I still feel like my leg resting on the bend of the cleaner would drive me wild. I think I am going to swap it out for a Ventilator cleaner. Hopefully I can recuperate $300.00 from the heavy breather to cover the cost of the Ventilator!

Certainly agree, preserving the warranty can be important, some things to consider-

A Ventilator, which does not have an EBS is only going to increase the likelihood of needing to use your warranty.

We have thousand of folks running our aftermarket A/C's that have a warranty, never heard of one of them having their warranty voided because of it...BUT, if you are concerned about that, just remove it if you ever need to go in for warranty work. Why compromise performance and engine longevity for a worry of what may happen when you can spend 30 minutes making it a completely non-issue?

This is what engines look like after running a typical A/C (like the Ventilator) with no EBS-

This is what they look like with a TRUE Stage I A/C-

http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/medi...cam2m3_151.jpg

Because they don't have this glop going into the combustion chambers-

2018 Fat Bob, also with the Heavy Breather. With the stock seat and pegs I was in the same situation. Swapped to a Mustang Seat and the Extended Reach Forward Controls. With the new riding position, Have no issues reaching the pedal now.https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...837c3241e5.jpg

The Ventilator is one of the lowest profile air cleaners around. I was still hitting my leg on it and was getting annoyed, so I looked at pretty much everything out there and couldn't find anything that was any narrower while maintaining the warranty. And the Ventilator is good for at least Stage II. I got some mini floorboards which moved my foot out a little and now my knee doesn't hit. I'm happy with it now, especially because I have a 114 so it came with the bike.

I know this is an old post but I just decided to fit the same air cleaner to my 114 Fat Bob. When you say it covers up the peg/brake are you saying that you can’t reach/operate them? That’s crazy. I just ordered the HB and the cover for it (MUCH more expensive here in the UK)

It will vary for everyone depending on your riding style, height, weight etc. I rode the stage 4 with heavy breather demo at the dealership and it got in the way of my leg. I like to keep my legs tucked in close to the tank so I couldn't have lived with it. I'm 6'3" so yea, it got in the way.

I’ve bought the filter and cover as in your picture. What’s that brake pedal you have fitted?

Pretty sure it's the edge cut billet brake lever with defiance brake pad. About a $230 setup from HD.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Here is the set up on my 115th Fatty. I'm 5' 11" tall and it fits me with no problem.

Thanks guys. I fitted the heavy breather to my softail FXFB and can confirm that I can't reach the foot brake either! Harley dealership in the UK told me there's no lever/pad combination that will fit my bike. I'm about to email these pictures to them! Thanks for your assistance on this.

That would be great...close-ups and the whole bike. Email em to Support@DKCustomProducts.com Attention Kevin in the subject line. Bike is looking good...didn't know/remember that you had moved to a Fat Bob.

Thanks man!

I’m not sure why it is that I (5’10”) and a few others can’t reach the brake adequately. Anyway, I fitted a bigger Harley foot brake pedal and pad and now it’s fine (although I’m not so happy with the more clunky look).
