I went with the Cornerstone but I will have to see about he coverage now that boardtracker is closed. There should be an administer of the plan if the dsp is no longer in biz. The web page is is still up.

But I went with Cornerstone so I dont have to deal with the Harley bull$hit about add ons. ... and yes I know the epa story.

 

When I bought my 2018 Heritage Softail I decided to buy just the warranty. It’s on of those things you hope you never have to use it.

 

I didn't buy either, but I did enjoy listening to the salesman telling me what great bikes the new softail's are and then in the next breath telling me why I really, really should get an extended warranty.

 

Yup, they no sooner finish telling you how "new and improved" everything is, then they start in on all the systems that are liable to fail so you need an extended warranty. If the bike is so unreliable that I need the extended warranty, maybe I should be looking at something else.

if an HD salesman is trying to sell you something, its probably the last thing you should buy.

 

When I got my '11 FB I got the HD extended warranty. I figured that 5k or so is the average annual mileage for one of these bikes so the cost is probably based on the average cost of repairs for a bike ridden that much. I had ridden my previous bike 17k miles per year so thought it might work to my advantage. It did. I don't remember the numbers but I know I came out ahead. I got one again on the new bike which has 22k in the first year. I expect to do that many again this year. Will it pay off to have the extended warranty on a 44k, 2 year old bike? Well I hope not, actually, but still seems like a decent bet. That said, I don't think I'll do it next time around.

 

Let's not forget the Pit Pass. $999/yr for scheduled maintenance, what a rip off for the average rider. At my dealers prices I'd need to ride 15,000 miles a year to come out ahead. I average around 8-10,000 miles a year.

 

Interesting data - Over half of the responses didn't purchase any sort of extended plan, but 10% bought both. Although I can change my own oil, I'm not really a mechanic. Although I do have a love to learn, I'd always be scared I'd be screwing something up worse. So I'm really on the fence. From what I've read and viewed on YouTube the basic warranty is 2-years. So now I have to wonder what's the Over/Under of a major issue. Any good/bad stories anyone wants to share?

Also, has anyone ever worked x-number of basic oil changes (not just the first "break-in") into a deal? My daughters new car actually came with the first 3 years of basic maintenance.
