Default Dead Battery?

I hauled my bike from Colorado to Vegas had it in transport mode. I unloaded it started it to park it and it started fine. It sat the rest of that day and the next day as well. Went to start it and the battery was dead. It was down to 12.1 volts. I have read of others having issues with batteries going dead. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you will know until a dealership test it for you. My guess is that it is dead.

It's a 2018 Heritage. I bought it in Sept of 18. I would hope a battery would last longer than that. I guess it could just be a bad one. Thanks

I will take it to the dealer. I just thought I had read somewhere that this has been an issue with 18 softail's.

Are you sure it was in transport mode? Sounds like transporting killed the battery. Charge it up and see what happens.

I am as sure as I can be. When something like this happens I tend to second guess my self. I have charged it and all seems good. I think it was something weird with the transport mode.

Hopefully it will not be diagnosis with a TADT (They All Do That) code.

In all seriousness,t he dealer will likely test it for parasitic draw or current - perhaps only when in transport mode.

Though is may or may not be connected to your situation, I found my batteries getting weak or dying when I left the stupid security fob on the bike in may garage. I don;t do that anymore and my batteries last longer - even if off tender.

There is (or maybe was) an issue with the 2018 Softail where the battery would self discharge. It seems to only happen once. My bike did it last year, but I pulled the battery and stuck it on a charger overnight and it has never done it again.

I have had other friends have exactly the same issue. Some took the bikes to the dealer who replaced the battery under warranty, only for them to have the issue again.

I have read vague reports that there was some kid of software issue but have never really got to the bottom of it. But anyway - just charge the battery, or jump the bike and you should be fine....

(To jump the bike, just put the positive jump lead clamp on a big screwdriver and use that to touch the positive battery terminal - you won't get a normal jump clamp to it as it's way down in the guts of the bike.)
