Default Battery Charger

Hi all,

I just took delivery today of a new 2019 Fatboy which I totally love - what a bike! It has an HD battery tender lead fitted (as I am told all new Harleys do as standard) and my question is, do I have to get an HD battery charger or are there adaptors which I can buy. I already have a couple of Optimate chargers and an Oxford Optimiser so would prefer not to have to buy another charger. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Mike

Even thought the pigtail on your bike is a 3-pin connector, the conventional standard 2-pin tender connectors should plug into it. The only caveat is that the tender be AGM-battery compatible.

  1. I didn't know there was any charger connection from the factory.
  2. 3-pin connector for a charger?
  3. Is the charger like this one? (looks like standard two pin connector used by multiple small chargers
  4. Battery-MINDer is my go-to charger for everything but severely discharged car batteries. http://www.batteryminders.com/1510-1...-with-warranty
Has pulsed desulphator technology. I used to work with the Chief Scientist at Exide battery who introduced me to this when it was being developed for the M1A1 Abrams program

  1. I didn't know there was any charger connection from the factory. Yes, all the newer HD's have them, generally located under the LH side cover
  2. 3-pin connector for a charger? HD-branded tenders use three pins, so the bike connector uses three pins but is backward-compatible with standard 2-pin tender connectors
  3. Is the charger like this one? (looks like standard two pin connector used by multiple small chargers That particular tender does mention AGM compatibility, and should be fine to use on your bike
