I’ve heard anything over 6” requires new cables. I kept stock cables with 4” pullbacks, but had to lose the bar and shield clamp because I couldn’t find risers that would fit.

I put the 6" pullback risers from the H-D catalog on my SG with stock bars. Did not have to change any wires, though I did have to pull a little more harness from under the gas tank, no issues. Clutch cable had to be relocated to the other side of the handlebars and the guide removed from the triple tree. Honestly don't think you can go anymore than the 6" rise without harness modifications.

I put the 4” pullbacks on and no cable replacement. Did have to move the clutch cable to front of the bar for extra slack.

How complicated of a process is it to move the cable?

Not that complicated. Released the clutch cable tension at the spring. Disassembled at clutch handle and ran in front of bar. There are a couple videos out on the tension process when you google search clutch adjustment for the M8 softail.

Added 4” risers but don’t know how to move the clutch cable. Disconnect at lever or at the ball connector under the cheap yellow plastic thing below? Or simply remove cable clamps and swing it around the end of the bar? Help much appreciated.

At the lever.
Pull the red clip at the cheap yellow thing to create slack.
