Currently own a 2017 Ultra Limited. Decided the bike is too heavy and I could never pick it up if I drop it. Test drove a trike today and was not impressed - much rougher ride that my Limited. Thinking of moving to a Heritage Classic. I still want to take road trips so the Classic seems like a good compromise. Wondering if anyone has made that change and what the experience is like.

Test ride one for a day... if ya got a good dealer they will let you. If you have to rent one for a day.
I had a 2011 flhtc full bagger and a 2014 streetglide special. Now on a 2019 Heritage and love it.
Its lighter. More maneuverable. Handles 10x better (in my opinion). Rides awesome solo or 2 up.
Changing the settings on the shock makes a difference, not so much on the touring.
Long ride shields and fork fangs and all is good.
Very happy.
You lose your radio and gps. Storage is a joke compared to full size hard saddlebags. But you will still have saddlebags. The solid mount motor will give some vibrations in the handle bars and floorboards. Not to bad but each bike is different.
Coming off of years on a rubber mount motor this is the biggest negative point. But i feel more connected to the the bike. I would recommend the Heritage and i would buy one again.
6000 miles 2 up 80% of the time. Just love it.

 

'14 Road King to a 114 Heritage here. Loved the RK but the new Softail Heritage is so much easier to live with plus great handling and fantastic power.

 

I road all of the touring bikes and after riding the 2019 Heritage, I bought it.

 

Older posting but I'll add my 2 cents. I rode the 11 and 15 FLHTK/L for 60K+ miles and am now newly on the 19 Heritage Classic, (114). I like the lighter weight and lower stance. Haven't done any 2 up yet but that's going to be a compromise for her losing her "lazyboy" in the back. Most of my riding is solo so not that big a deal. Yep I've lost storage but I've got a variety of T-bags etc. to make up for the smaller saddle bags and no tourpac. Biggest issue I'm going to have is securing my jacket on a "scenic ride" when I stop to see something.

 

I like mine much better than my 2014 Street Glide.

 

Same. Went from a '17 RK to a '19 Deluxe (added bags and windshield for touring). The 120lb or so in weight savings feels more like 200. Suspension, handling, power, all massive upgrades. Ability to strip all the touring stuff off the bike is a bonus too.

 

There are options for Tour Paks and Tail Bags for the Heritage...

Various options for securing jackets and helmets to a bike. If you wear a full face helmet, this works pretty good...

 

Went from a 2015 Road Glide Special to a 2020 Heritage Classic for various reasons.
Glad I did, no regrets

 

I'm just not comfortable leaving the handgun in a jacket pocket even if it's strapped/chained to the bike. I could remove it from pocket and lock in saddle bag which I may do. I alway wear a jacket so perhaps either my mesh which will fit in the bag, or get a lighter weight leather one. My FXRG leather won't fit, to much bulk. Don't want to add a tourpac. I'd kept the FLHTKL if I did.

I'm not talking about leaving it overnight, just sightseeing where I'm out of site of the bike for a while. No I'm not leaving the gun back at the RV.
