Default 2019 deluxe exhaust black puffs

Just bought a new 2019 deluxe and love the bike! I wanted to change the slip on mufflers and put some V&H 3"slash cut slip ons. Fired up and love the sound,but...on accell Im getting puffs of black smoke and pig rich smell. Ive ridden it 1 mile and put the stocks back on. Did I f up since the V&H dont have catalytic convertors in them like the stockers?

The ECU should be able to compensate with just slip ons. May just need to ride a while to get the bike broken in first before you add the slip ons.

Give it about 60 miles. It should adjust. Won’t ruin your motor. Worst case is it might foul a spark plug, but unlikely.

Your bike will stink without the cat, that’s probably why you think it’s running rich, it’s not. Cat-less FI motors stink, just the way it is. I’ve had bikes stink so bad it make me want to puke, I keep the cat now if I can.

I’ve never experienced this myself. Nothing compared to the smell of old carbed iron with leaded gasoline anyway, but then again I miss that smell.

Really? Google “catless exhaust smell”, it’s a common complaint\issue when removing converters. I have yet to remove one that didn’t result in a stinky exhaust.

don’t need google, plenty of my own experience. A slight fuel smell is normal, but nothing I’d call “stinky” or to the point of puking as you mentioned. His issue is more the black smoke (along with the smell) which is not common unless overly rich which the ECU should adjust for in a few miles.

Since you only rode a mile and put the stockers back on I wouldn't worry about it.

Put the v&h on ride maybe a few hundred more then just one mile. 90% of the bikes are catless including mine. No smell sounds and runs good.
V&H propipe 2-1 harley tuner still has warranty.
Epa don't apply in Canada.
